A little bit about Charing
Charing is an historic village nestled deep
in the heart of Kent, the “Garden of England”.
The village of Charing lies on the historic North Downs trackway, which is also known as the Pilgrim’s Way and has been a transport and trading route since prehistoric times. Its recorded history goes back to Anglo-Saxon times and there is evidence of Iron Age and Roman settlement.
No surprise then that we have a thriving history society.
The village can be found at the centre of the civil parish of Charing.
Also within the parish are the the smaller village of Charing Heath and the hamlet of Westwell Leacon.
Charing parish is one of 39 civil parishes that form the Borough of Ashford, which itself is one of the 12 districts that constitute the County of Kent.
